THE INSTITUTE OF THE UNEXPECTED

Citizens, passersby, and Oslo-dwellers! Mark your calendars for free monthly workshop-events at The Institute of the Unexpected!
Take a deep dive into the themes of the project, exploring ways that non-artists and artists have reimagined the relationship between body, movement, public space, everyday life, and citizenship.

About_
The Institute of the Unexpected is an art project as well as an intercultural and always-in-motion citizen lab. It’s a form of creative public practice that operates through temporary and unforeseeable situations-events in public space. Using active observation, intuitive attention and gestural recognition as source material to create suggestive live compositions and new collective social choreographies. Aiming to challenge and alter the social logic of the city of Oslo and to encourage collaborative co-production of new and atypical behaviors.

The Institute of the Unexpected is an evolving open-ended public forum for improvised performative interventions and participatory-gestural interactions in the city. Rethinking everyday life and movement into a basis for more creative and autonomous citizenship.

We are looking for “accomplices”; co-producers and partners in crime, alias a gang, to playfully “misbehave” in Oslo’s public spaces and POPS (privately owned public spaces). This is an opportunity for ANYONE -regardless of artistic background or artistic “skills”- interested in embarking on a whimsy journey with other fellow pedestrians in the city.

*The workshops are free of charge and will be held in English
